In this case News of the World a British tabloid conducted a sting operation and exposed a bookie named Mazhar Majeed who claimed to have bribed the Pakistani players to perform spot fixing actions during the Lords Test match against England.

Investigation by the International Cricket Council ICC

1. Mohammad Asif: The talented fast bowler was banned from all forms of cricket for seven years with two years suspended meaning he was banned from playing cricket for a total of five years.

2. Mohammad Amir: The young left arm fast bowler was banned from all forms of cricket for five years. He was a teenager at the time of the scandal and his age and involvement in the spot fixing were taken into consideration during the disciplinary process.

Players Bans in Cricket

All three players served their respective bans and Amir was allowed to return to international cricket in 2016 after serving his suspension. He made his comeback to the Pakistan national team and continued to play professional cricket. Asif and Butt also returned to domestic cricket after their bans but their chances of making it back to the national team were significantly impacted due to the seriousness of their involvement in the scandal.
