Sadam Hussein
The former President of Iraq. Saddam Hussein was a prominent political figure who ruled Iraq with an iron fist from 1979 until his downfall in 2003. He was known for his authoritarian regime human rights abuses and aggressive foreign policy.
Saddam Hussein Responsible
During his time in power Saddam Hussein was responsible for numerous human rights violations including the use of chemical weapons against civilians brutal suppression of uprisings and widespread political repression. His invasion of Kuwait in 1990 led to the Gulf War an international conflict that resulted in a coalition of countries pushing Iraqi forces out of Kuwait.
December 2006
In 2003 the United States and its allies launched the Iraq War largely driven by claims that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction. After the invasion Hussein was eventually captured put on trial and found guilty of crimes against humanity. He was executed in December 2006.
